Kitchen renovation
Kitchen renovation is the procedure involved in remodelling a kitchen space. This could mean anything from installing new appliances to replacing old units with modern ones, or even completely gutting and redesigning an existing kitchen area.
The aim of a renovation is usually either functional – rearranging the layout for maximum efficiency in regards to workflow between different areas such as your work surface and hob, storage solutions etc., aesthetic – changing the colour scheme or style of your kitchen unit doors/cabinets, flooring etc., or both! It’s not uncommon that homeowners will want their whole house refurbished all at once so they can have one cohesive look throughout their home.
Benefits of renovating your kitchen
A fresh-looking updated kitchen design will add value to any property you put it on the market with and is also a great way to make your home feel more like ‘theirs’ having created something they can completely call their own.

When is kitchen renovation not the best option?
Bear in mind that you may end up spending more money on professional tradesmen than it would have cost originally for new units/worktops etc. if the project goes over budget or there are unforeseen complications during installation of appliances such as water damage due to faulty pipework which leads onto making other parts of your house damp too…and so begins another expensive job!
What to do to have a successful kitchen renovation
Find out your aim for the renovation
Why are you doing it? Is it to do with an overwhelming desire for change, the need to modernize or simply because your appliances are past their sell-by date and you want something newer? All of these can be valid reasons but if this is not what YOU want then all that hard work (and money) could end up being wasted.
Set a realistic budget
If you go over budget there’s no way you’ll get any more funding so make sure that everything has been accounted for before starting and also keep checking in with your builders/tradesmen as they may find problems along the way that will send costs spiralling; we know how difficult it can be when renovations seem like they’re going on forever but try to stick at it.
Plan your new kitchen appliances carefully
If you’re not careful then replacing them could end up costing more than the renovation itself and we’ve all had those appliances that work perfectly fine but look a little dated; maybe it’s time to replace your fridge or dishwasher (if they aren’t already part of your budget) as this is probably what will make the biggest difference aesthetically.
Decide how you are going to carry out your plan
What are you hoping to achieve at the end of your kitchen renovation? Are you dreaming of a bespoke fitted kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances or something more simple but practical? Planning will make sure that when it comes down to making decisions about worktops, flooring and wall tiles you know what’s achievable within your budget.
Understand the key elements of great kitchen renovation
A good layout, ample worktop space, right materials for surfaces and plenty of storage are essential for creating a well-functioning kitchen so don’t be afraid to go back to basics if things start going wrong!
Be mindful of small details
Drawers might seem like an afterthought in most renovations but these can have a big impact on the convenience and beauty of your kitchen.
Decide on your colour scheme
One of the most important decisions you will have to make when designing your new kitchen is what colour scheme you want. Springvale Kitchens recommend a light shade for walls and cabinets with dark worktops or darker flooring to create a sense of space within the room.
Decide on the best material for your work surfaces
Springvale Kitchen’s experts can provide advice about choosing materials, designs and finishes that are right for your needs but if it’s time for some inspiration Springvale recommends marble effect tiles which can be cheap without reducing quality while still providing an attractive surface.
Consider how best to use the space
If you’re not sure about your plan it’s probably worth getting a second opinion from someone who knows what they are doing as this will give you an unbiased view of the potential improvements that could be made or problems that might arise. Springvale Kitchens can help with kitchen design in Sheffield so feel free to get in touch if this is something you need assistance with!
Design your space around your appliances
We recommend that you always plan your kitchen around the appliances and features that are going to be placed in it. This means planning for storage next to major appliances, but also considering how much space will need to be left between certain items so they can function properly. In addition, we recommend taking measurements of any existing furniture or cabinets before renovations begin which should help ensure you have enough room once everything is finished!
What does kitchen renovation involve?
Demolition
In the demolition stage, we will first remove all appliances, cabinets and any other items that are currently in your kitchen. We will also take down the flooring if it is not already removed by another contractor or you!
Plumbing
The next step in the renovation process is installing new plumbing. This will entail moving any pipes that are already in place to accommodate where you want your sink, dishwasher and stove top to be placed
Electrical
Installing new electrical wiring may also need to happen during this stage of kitchen renovations – if there is an existing power source that provides enough electricity for your appliances!
Drywall
Once all of these areas have been completed, we can install the drywall on the walls surrounding our cabinetry. We will need to remove any moulding or wallpaper around doors or windows too at this time
Paint
Now that Springvale Kitchens have completed the drywall, we will be ready to paint. We typically recommend a professional painter do this step for you
Cabinetry
Our cabinets are typically installed at the end of a renovation and we recommend installing them once all other renovations have been completed. This ensures that we can provide you with the best quality possible!
Worktops
Springvale Kitchens will install your countertops at the end of Springvale Kitchen’s renovation. We typically recommend using stone or quartz as they will be able to stand up against wear and tear
Flooring
Springvale Kitchens will need to complete this step as well. Our dedicated flooring team can lay linoleum, tile or wood
Backsplash
Springvale Kitchens can complete this task for you before cabinets are installed, however, it is cheaper if we wait until after cabinetry installation has been completed. This allows us to purchase fewer materials which help save money on your kitchen renovation!
Appliances installation
After Springvale Kitchen finishes installing cabinets but before counters have been laid, appliances should be delivered and installed by professionals to ensure that work surfaces remain intact during this period. You may also want to hire a professional plumber who installs new appliances to ensure they are properly connected.
FAQs
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
Our kitchens can typically complete an entire kitchen renovation in about one week, however, this time varies depending on the size of your home and how much work is required. You should expect anywhere from five days to two weeks for our team to completely renovate your space!
We also recommend allowing additional time for unforeseen issues that may arise during this process such as tears or cracks in drywall which require mending before cabinets are installed. If you have any will install the appliances for you.
What can I do to plan for a kitchen renovation?
When you are planning on kitchen renovation, it is important to be organized! The more prepared you are for your project the less stress and cost there will be. It begins with determining what exactly needs to change in your space so that we can ensure an accurate estimate. Kitchen renovations often require permits which many homeowners choose not to do themselves if they lack experience or knowledge of the building process. Springvale Kitchens has licensed plumbers who can take care of any plumbing issues while our electricians have years of experience rewiring kitchens both old and new alike.
Will renovating a kitchen add value to my home?
Yes! We can help you realise the true value of your kitchen and this is where we come in. We will not only make sure that our expert team delivers a high-quality project, but we can also assist with selling your home by fine-tuning and marketing it to potential buyers and real estate agents alike.
How much does it cost to renovate a kitchen?
Whether or not our renovation costs are more than what you planned for depends on several factors such as how extensive the kitchen renovations need to be (e.g. new appliances installation), whether there is an existing design plan already laid out (you’re paying for something someone else has designed).
How do I finance a kitchen renovation?
You can obtain a loan from us to finance your project, but keep in mind that loans have interest rates attached and should be paid back within a specific time frame after completion. You can also obtain a home improvement line of credit which will allow you access to funds as needed throughout the renovation process until the account is closed out. Alternatively, there are other options such as cash or vouchers available if funding isn’t an issue for you!
